[FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.] STUDEN DEATH IN A CHURCH. - On Sunday evening last, Mr. Soloman Bowerman, an old resident at Pennant Hills, and a native of this district, died very suddenly in All Saints' Church at the commencement of the evening service. - At an inquest held by Dr. Brown, coroner for the district, at the Rose and Crown Inn, on Monday morning last, the following particulars were elicited:- Dr. Fyffe stated :- Yesterday (Sunday) evening I was attending service in All Saints' Church ; at the commencement of the service I observed some commotion in a pew at the other side of the church, and fancying that I saw some one fall, I left my own pew and went across ; I found that the deceased had fallen on the seat of the pew. Imagining at first sight that he was in a fit, I directed Mr. Tunks, and some others who were by, to carry him into the open air; they did so, and laid him down in the porch ; on examining him I found that he was perfectly pulseless, the heart had ceased to beat, breathing had stopped, and he was perfectly dead ; as far as I can judge - being there at the time and from examination since - I am of opinion that deceased died from disease of the heart. By juror : The disease of the heart may have been there for some time without deceased being aware of it. Elizabeth Jeffery, daughter of the deceased, stated that yesterday evening she went to All Saints' church with her father, and sat in a seat imme-diately in front of him ; soon after the commencement of the service se heard a peculiar sort of snorting noise, and turning round, saw her father's head upon the seat; thinking he was in a fit, she went to him and unbuttoned his shirt collar; he had not been ill lately, but about three months before he had been under Dr. Rutter's treatment for rheumatism in the chest ; he never spoke after he was taken with the fit in the church. E. M. Betts, master of the Protestant Orphan School, near Parramatta, had assisted to carry deceased out to the church porch ; deceased breathed a few times heavily, and then ceased breathing altogether ; after being laid down in the porch deceased gave no signs of life; knew deceased slightly ; he appeared a steady respectable man ; deceased was 52 years of age, and much respected by all who knew him. The jury returned a verdict in ac-cordance with the medical testimony.
