She and her younger sister Florence were left in the care of their brothers George and John. Although as I have mentioned the financial problems of the 1890s destroyed their inheritance of £200 each from their father, they appear to have been well looked after by their family. A lovely portrait of Jane Ellen taken in the 1890s shows Jane beautifully and fashionably dressed. Jane met and married William Codrington Lord from Manhatten Illinois on the 31 August 1892 in Sydney. William Codrington Lord was the third son of Charles Payne Lord and Eliza Frances Codrington of Jamaica. Charles had first migrated to Illinois and took out American citizenship but having supported the Confederate Army during the Civil War may have left there and returned either to England or the West Indies after the Civil War. His father Samual Hall Lord had built a sumptuous home now known as Lord's Castle in Jamaica in the 1820s. Jane and William had three children Ashley, Enid, and Colin. Ashley died in 1915 from wounds received in action at Gallipoli. Enid died in 1992, Colin in 1996. by MPTDSL
